CHAPTER 17

LIVING IS A CARNAGE!

SO A HUMANENESS, OR A PRACTICALLY MEANINGFUL COMPASSION, IS NECESSARY TOWARDS SUBHUMAN FORMS-THE UNFORTUNATES.

BUT ALAS, COMPASSION SEEMS CONFINED TO THOSE THAT BLEED AND SCREAM. THE SILENT SUFFERERS LIKE THE EVOLUTIONARY ADVANCED FLOWERING PLANTS HAVE BEEN IGNORED.

IF TAKE LIFE, AS YOU MUST,*(1) BE IT FOR REAL CONCERN,*(2) NEVER FOR ANY THRILL OUT OF SUCH A SOJOURN.

KILLING A CARROT*(3) FOR FOOD RATHER THAN A COW, DOES SEEM VIRTUOUS. BUT IS THE LIFE OF ONE COW OR THOSE OF A HUNDRED CARROTS MORE SIGNIFICANT? HENCE, VEGETARIANISM IS NOT SYNONYMOUS WITH VIRTUE; BUT A PRACTICAL COMPASSION OR MEANINGFUL MORALITY IS SO.I.E KILLING FOR MAXIMUM UTILIZATION, WITH MINIMUM SUFFERING.

*(01) Cattle reared for slaughter are ensured a relatively satisfactory life prior to their death. This applies even for lambs. But, the same cannot be sad for cooped up chickens; who lead a truly pathetic (cruel) existence. Killing a wild duck though, can bring howls of protest.

*(02) 1. To protect – from harmful organisms.

  1. To Preserve: Let hunger be your guide to food;

Let nutrition be your guide to hunger;      Let flavor be your guide to nutrition;      and, Let compassion be your guide to r.

And   3. To Progress: A peaceful, placid, pleasant environment, for intellectual advancement.

*(03) A potato plant is harvested at the end of its life-span, for the nutrition it has stored for the next generation – similar to

The yolk in a hen’s egg. But a carrot is slaughtered at the prime of its life, for the nutrition it has stored for itself – to flower and procreate. Even killing of advanced plants may have to be permitted, for morality to be a middle way, to realizing the nature of things. However, it would be the gravest folly not to know the difference between boiling a lifeless bean and a living, thriving beet!
