CHAPTER 12

12.

DO NOT PAUSE TOO LONG,

OR LEISURE, AT A PLEASURES ;(*1) (TRANSIENT HAPPINESS OR)

FOR YOU MAY NEGLECT AND FAIL TO FIND

WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR

UNFRAGILE, SUSTAINED HAPPINESS. (*2)

(THE JOY OF THE TRUTH CAN BE

AUGMENT ANY TRANSIENT SENSUAL

HAPPINESS, PARTICULARLY TO AVOID

THE REBOUND NEGATIVE THAT

INVARIABLY FOLLOWS SENSE PLEASURES.)

*(1) – TRANSIENT PLEASURES OR RELAXATIONS ARA VITAL TO PREVENT THE BODY DISCHARGING UNPLEASANT SENSATIONS, WHICH MAKE RATIONAL THINKING OR THE PURSUIT OF REALITY

ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. BUT SUCH RELAXATIONS MUST NOT BE PERMITTED TO OBSCURE REALITY,

OR HINDER THE GATHERING OF FACTS WHICH LEAD TO IT (MINDFULNESS). THESES FACTS, ONCE

ESTABLISHED, REMAIN A PERMANENT SOURCE OF HAPPINESS – THE JOY OF THE TRUTH. BUT EVEN TO EXTRACT THESE, ONE MUST BE RELATIVELY PAIN (AND WORRY) FREE. TO BE ABLE TO TRULY TRANSCEND (OR BE UNMOVED BY) PAIN AND WORRY MEANS THE ULTIMATE. THIS IS NOT AN

APPARENT POSSIBILITY, BUT IS AN ULTIMATE OF REALITY; WHERE PAIN, HOWEVER UNPLEASANT, CAN ONLY ENHANCE THE ULTIMATE JOY OF THE TRUTH. LINKING THE PAIN TO THE JOY MUST ENABLE ONE TO TRANSCEND (OR BE UNMOVED BY) IT.

(*2) – SUSTAINED HAPPINESS MEANS UNINFORMED HAPPINESS. YOU DON’T EXPECT HAPPINESS

WITH EVERY STEP YOU TAKE; ONCE IN EVERY TEN SUFFICIENT, SO LONG AS THERE IS NO PAIN IN BETWEEN! IN OTHER WORDS, THE PROBLEM IS UNCERTAINTY; AND THE ONLY WAY TO ELIMINATE

UNCERTAINTY IS BY GETTING DOWN TO its GRASS ROOTS OR REALITY. RELIGIOUS EUPHORIA CAN ENDURE A LOT OF PAIN. BUT THE PROBLEM IS NOT THAT OF ENDURING PAIN; BUT THAT OF TRANSCENDING IT, OR BEING UNMOVED BY IT, WITHOUT RESERVE. FOR THIS, YOU MUST

UNDERSTAND; THERE IS NO ROOM FOR ANY BELIEF. ONE CANNOT DIE HAPPILY FOR\IN ONE’S BELIEFS – JUST HOPEFULLY! HAPPINESS OF THE FUTURE CAN ARISE ONLY BY ELIMINATING

UNCERTAINTY (OF IT) “FATHER, WHY HAS THOU FOR SHAKEN ME? (YET)” THY WILL (WILL) BE

DONE.” (JESUS) IT WAS PRECIOUSLY BECAUSE HIS (THE FATHER’S) WILL WAS NOT DONE, THAT HE

(THE SONE) WAS FORSAKEN! (COMMENTARY)
